Special dedication to my pure bred Siberian Husky Ditzy. This dog is clumsy like me, loves food and adventure like me and is still lazy. Which is only SOMETIMES like me. This poem depicts a time where my dog, husband and myself were NOT lazy. We love our trips to the ADK mountains in NY and thought why not? Let’s take a dog designed to pull so we can get to the top.
Once we took our dog on vacation and she made the best of every situation.
It wasn’t a holiday or special occasion. Just my husband, dog and I
Off to find isolation in the mountains among the plants and sedimentation.
Beautiful was the start and high the elevation.
We greatly anticipated our next day's destination.
Daylight came in the back country and we felt no limitation.
One more summit and then we make camp again.
Until a dreadful torrential rain came in.
We hunkered down under a rock overhang watching water slowly cascade.
My poor drenched dog, double coat soaked, waited patiently.
A man in sandals walked down and past.
The rain came and went and came at last
Soaking the tent, clothes, and blankets too.
Exhausted and defeated we followed the water back down the mountain
Bidding the trip a final adieu.. My poor husky felt dazed and confused.
In her mind this was what she was trained to do.
I ruined my dog’s first vacation
Or an act of God if you would,
She is still lazy, so the trip didn’t do her any good.
