Winter Body, NY

My winter body does not know that it is different.

It does not know harshness from softness.

To differentiate the two would be akin to understanding an alien language.

The Winter understands cold and colder and it knows how to prepare.

Layer after layer until suffication is only fair

when your foe is the winter cold.

Kindling kept for fires, propane gas for heat and still

we are cold and colder.

Another day we may be able to keep it going

but with winter and all the snowing

we are accustomed to cold and colder.

While across New York state

we pick and choose between

electrcity, warmth or food?

Alwhile they cackle, crude and rude.

Crudely they increase the cost to run power

unfathomable to those of us who know

that niagra falls runs even in the cold and

the wind blows hard on the turbines we were sold.

We gave this state our land and

often offered each other a helping hand

but push has come to shove and

The winter body has had enough

despite being used to cold and colder.
